Maintenance

Brakes

  • Remove the brake pad screw using a Rollerblade™ Bladetool™ or Phillips head screwdriver.

  • Remove the old brake pad from the brake housing, be careful not to lose the screw nut located inside the housing

  • Install the new 762L brake pad into the brake housing of the Rollerblade skate.

  • Re-install the brake pad screw using the Rollerblade™ Bladetool™.

Lightning/Aero brake arm replacement/removal

  • Use the Rollerblade™ BladeTool™ or a 4mm  Allen key to remove the inside screw of the rear wheel axle.

  • Then unscrew the axle from the outside of the rear wheel and remove the wheel from the frame.

  • Locate the metal pin that holds the upper arm of the brake housing to the frame. It can be found directly below the heel section of the shell.

  • Using a nail and hammer, gently tap the pin out of the frame. Be careful to support the frame from underneath so as not to bend the frame.

  • Once the pin is free, the brake housing can be removed from the frame. At this time, a new brake housing can be installed or the rear wheel can be replaced to skate without a brake. A shorter axle will be needed if the brake housing is not used.

Abt Brakes

Abt Lite Assembly

  • To install the ABT Lite, first line up the brake arm hooks with the holes on the back of the skate.

  • Press the hooks into the holes by hand and then pry down with a screwdriver to completely seat the hooks.

  • To attach the brake support, first release approximately 3-2 of slack on the metal band. This is accomplished by pushing the adjustment button with the thumb and pulling.

  • Notice the teardrop shaped peg on the brake arm.
(On some early production models the peg will be circular)

  • Notice the teardrop shaped peg on the brake arm.
(On some early production models the peg will be circular)

  • Once the peg is securely hooked in the metal loop, replace the rear wheel, axle and spacers. The tension on the brake band should be reset by turning the adjustment screw counter-clockwise.

Abt Lite Removal

  • ABT Lite Brake System.

  • ABT Lite Tool-Free Brake System.

  • Remove the rear axle and wheel from the skate with the ABT brake.

  • To free the peg from the loop, twist the brake support out and twist the top towards you, and then down. The peg should pop free with a snap.

  • Once the peg is twisted free from of the loop, the brake support will be loose. The next step is to remove the ABT brake arm mounted to the back of the skate.

  • Turn the skate upside down and use a hammer to tap the brake arm off the shell of the skate.

  • Once the arm is loose, you can remove the ABT Lite from the skate.

  • With the ABT removed, you can then install a new brake system or install the rear wheel (with short axle) to use the skate without a brake.

Wheels

Bearing cleaning

  • Items needed: Bearing cleaner set, bearing lubricant, Rollerblade™ Bladetool™, thumbtack.

  • Use the Rollerblade™ Bladetool™ or a similar tool to remove the bearing from the wheel.

  • If the bearing spacer is visible, use the Rollerblade™ Bladetool™ to push the spacer through the wheel.

  • If the spacer is hidden, pry the bearing out using the Rollerblade™ Bladetool™.

  • Once one bearing is removed, push out the opposite side bearing.

  • After locating the C-ring that holds the shield onto the bearing, use a thumbtack or paper clip to pry it off.

  • Once the C-ring has been removed, remove the shield to expose the internals. Repeat with second bearing.

  • Use the bearing cleaner to remove the dirt and old lubricant and allow to air dry completely before continuingto the next step.

  • Lubricate the internals of the bearing and then reassemble the bearings and wheel.

Aero 9 wheel replacement

  • Unscrew the axle using the Rollerblade™ Bladetool™ or a similar tool (4mm allen key).

  • Remove the long part of the axle by pushing it out of the wheel and frame.

  • Axle and screw have been removed.

  • Remove the wheel from the frame.

  • Install the new wheel into the desired position of the frame. (You may have to install the bearings and spacers from the old wheel).

  • Center the wheel and install the long half of the axle.

Lightning Wheel Replacement

  • Unscrew the axle using the Rollerblade™ Bladetool™ or a similar tool (4mm allen-key).

  • Remove the axle from the frame and wheel.

  • Remove the long part of the axle by pushing it out of the wheel and frame.

  • Remove the wheel from the frame.

  • Install the new wheel into the desired position of the frame. (You may have to install the bearings and spacers from the old wheel) Tighten the rear axle, but do not over-tighten.

Abt Wheel Replacement

  • Remove the axle from the wheel that attaches to the ABT brake using a Rollerblade TM Bladetool ™ or a similar tool (4mm allen key).

  • Remove the wheel from the frame.

  • Install the new wheel into the frame. (You may have to install the bearings and spacers from the old wheel).

  • Install the axle and tighten ‘til snug. Do not over-tighten.

Frames

Aero frame, lateral adjustment

  • 4mm Allen key.

  • Side view of mounting bolt adjustment. Repeat process with rear mounting bolt.

  • With the mounting bolts loose, you can adjust the lateral position of the frame.

  • Move the frame to the same side that the skate leans to while standing on it. If the skate leans to the inside when you are wearing the skate, then move the frame to the inside to create a neutal stance.

  • Repeat process with other skate. You may have to perform this process more than once to find the desired positioning.

Lightning frame lateral adjustment

  • Loosen the screw and remove axle.

  • Remove wheel.

  • Remove 1st, 2nd, and 4th wheel .

  • Move the frame to the same side that the skate leans to while standing on it. If the skate leans to the inside when you are wearing the skate, then move the frame to the inside to create a neutral stance.Re-install the wheels and axles. Repeat process if necessary.

  • Use 4mm long-handled allen key to loosen frame mounting bolt.

  • Loosen and remove front mounting bolt; Loosen and remove rear mounting bolt.

Lightning frame longitude adjustment

  • Use the Rollerblade™ BladeTool™ or a 4mm Allen key to remove the axle of the front wheel.

  • Repeat this procedure to remove all the wheels and axles.

  • Use the Rollerblade™ BladeTool™ or a 4mm Allen key to remove the front frame bolt, accessed from underneath the frame, near the first frame crossbar.

  • Repeat this process with the rear frame bolt, located near the rear frame crossbar. The frame can be removed after these two bolts are no longer holding it into place.

  • The frame mounting hardware can now be seen at the bottom of the shell. There are four different positions the frame can be placed, by way of the toe hardware.

  • To access the frame mounting hardware, remove the liner from the skate.

  • The frame mounting hardware will have to be moved in both the front and rear locations to install the frame in a different position. The rear hardware is underneath the gel shock absorber.Once the hardware is in the desired position, replace the frame bolts using the reverse of steps 3 and 4.

  • Use the Rollerbladetm BladeTooltm or a 4mm Allen key to replace the wheels and axles. Repeat the entire process with opposite skate.

Lightning frame positioning

  • Lightning 05 shown with frame moved towards the rear.

  • Lightning 05 shown with frame moved towards the toe.
